Learning Camp Week!
Day one learning camp.
First day of school, second semester students were greeted by Ivan to inspire ourselves through yoga. Let’s just say my flexibility is poor and I will just continue to use weights at the gym. After our introduction to yoga, we were broken into our reading circle groups to commence our learning camp workshops. The workshop for the day was conducted with a visitor from a library to assist students with how to reference correctly for our assignment and thesis reports using a program called “RefWorks”. Definitely a fantastic tool to use and I will ensure to utilise this when required.
Day two learning camp.
The morning was greeted by Kalle. Today’s inspiration is to create a song with key words handed out to the student groups. The word we will be utilising for this will be “Project management”. The song will be due tomorrow and I hope everyone else had fun making a humoristic song.
Ivan’s lesson was about copyright.
Copyright… Don’t do it…. If you get caught, people laugh at you and will express unprofessionalism.
Mutual agreement and a vision. Teams need to agree upon how the processes will work and how they will function in order to communicate. What are the roles in the team? Are there any concerns? What are the milestones? Is everybody contributing? This was discussed with Kalle to comprehend and appreciate how to commit to communication with project management and ICT tools. Projects can be painful if multiple challenges arise, but as an effective team everyone’s thoughts need to be respected and understand everyone’s dynamics can enhance the project in hand.
Day three learning camp
The day begun with the song creations from students who were to sing their songs they generated from the previous day with Kalle. Sadly, I had to miss the fun as I enrolled in the IATA Regulations and management course. This allows students to appreciate the importance of how to use the system Amadeus. Amadeus is a system that connects travel agencies and customers in real time to make a booking for car hire, flight travel and even hotels.
Day four learning camp
Inspire to taste. Delicious way to start the day by eating jelly beans. No salminyaki ( salmiakki (input by Vic)) only fruitful flavours. After eating about 5 cups of jelly beans, students left in their own degree programs to preview and discuss these semesters activities. After the completion of the group discussion, I felt unsure about the semester as nothing was discussed about selection criteria, learning outcomes, the only thing discussed about the semester project was about that ABBA17 is a 19-strong team and people need to be present at school from 0830 to 1600. How do I feel about it? I just hope we all work well this semester with good drive.
The afternoon was a sports fair that was mixed with first semester students and ventured into Helsinki and caught the ferry to Suomenlinna. Nothing like kicking the footy, meeting new people and having a nice time.
