Finnair Training school visit

7th April 2017 ABBA students had the ability to visit the leading aviation training center of Finnair flight academy. Our host was one of our colleagues in the degree program as Suvi is a cabin crew attendant and training instructor for Finnair. Our day consisted of guest speaker Merja Alhola to discuss current and future trends of what Finnair are faced with in sales and marketing, A330 and A350 simulator visit, evacuation drills and a house tour.

Finnair are one of the leading safest airlines people travel on today. Only two aircraft have been lost since they have been established. One aircraft was shot down during WWII and another was lost as two pilots were intoxicated during flight.

All students had the ability to fly the A330 simulator on the tarmac, landing strip and in the air. There was so much excitement from all students. In the safety training hall, we practiced procedures of an aircraft crash on the landing strip.This simulation was a tool for cabin crew to familiarise crew safety training requirements for fire and smoke. The mock cabin moved around and smoke filled the cabin. I could not see anything 5 centimeters in front of me. This drill made all students and facilitators’ aware of how important it is to listen to all safety guidance when we now board an aircraft to know where is the safest and closest exits are. The house tour shown all students of aircraft mock ups in aircraft A320, A330 and A380 simulators. This allows cabin crew to practice service and where all resources are during a flight.

Everyone left with excitement and could not wait to begin our careers in aviation.
